April Happenings

If it’s Tuesday, it’s PWG!

Hi Pamlico Writers–

April has five Tuesdays! See what’s going on, below.  Looking forward to seeing you all whenever you can make it.

As the month rolls on, each week we will check in about our preparation of pieces for our staged readings at Bath Fest. The more the merrier. Remember to keep things appropriate for a general audience.

Finally, April is National Poetry Month. The Poetry in Plain Sight program run by the North Carolina Poetry Society will be sending us posters featuring contest-winning poems, which we will post at various locations in Washington and Beaufort County. This program lasts all year, so be on the lookout for each month’s new poems.

APRIL 2–WHAT ARE YOU READING? 5PM, WINE AND WORD GOURMET, 220 W. Main St., Washington, NC. Let’s get readers and writers together and talk books! Bring whatever book you are currently reading, or bring your all-time favorite, and share what you like (or don’t like) about it and why. All are welcome!

APRIL 9–CRITIQUE SESSION, 7PM, Turnage Theater. Submit your work-in-progress and get supportive and  helpful reactions from your fellow writers and readers. (Submit pieces by Friday, April 5.)

APRIL 16–OPEN MIC FOR SPOKEN WORD, 5PM, Main Cup, 210 West Main St., Washington, NC. READ, RECITE, PERFORM, DECLAIM any literary work, your own or someone else’s. Tell a story. Act out a scene.Tell some jokes. Recite your favorite Shakespeare sonnet. We’re all ears!

APRIL 23–LOCAL AUTHOR SUSAN MCINTYRE will read from and discuss her new novel, The Last Time She Skipped: The Story of a Yemeni Bride. 7PM, Turnage Theater Gallery.

Prompt Writing with Mandy

In prompt writing, we choose a few words or phrases and then write freely about them without stopping for 15-20 minutes. This exercise will center around using these prompts as a springboard for developing a character you would like to write about. This is a fun, stress-free exercise! All are welcome!

Flex your writing muscles. Test your muse! Come join Mandy and the gang at the theater!

Tuesday, January 23rd, 7 pm at the Turnage Theater 150 West Main Street, Washington, North Carolina 27889.
